Biography: Donald Ferguson was a son of Donald Ferguson (Dòmhnall a Ruaidh), who was a tailor. His mother was from Aberdeen. He worked on the Applecross farm and in the Gardens at Applecross House. Around 1950, he became the first permanent postman on Mortie Never’s round in the 1950s and worked at this job until the mid-1970s. He had two sons, who both live in Applecross (2012). His brother Iain was a tailor who emigrated to Melbourne, Australia; and he had a sister who died in childhood.
