He was fishing with Donald Gordon (Dols) and Duncan Gordon on the ‘Vampire’. He spent time in Kintail as a cattleman, and in Cluanie. In Kintail, he got to know some of the famous whisky smugglers including Ali Mal. He returned to Applecross a few years after his father and brother bought the ‘Isa Wood’. He was fishing on the ‘Clan MacKenzie’ from Ardneaskan during World War II while the ‘Isa Wood’;  was ashore as a crew could not be raised. He was in the ‘Isa’ from 1947 until 1968. He was a strong man in his prime and enjoyed the heavy events at the local Games.
