Biography: Information from Highland Council’s Register of Interments, which commenced in 1927. The lair owner when he died was the deceased himself. A note in this source, under a column headed ‘Remarks’, states: “Died at Inverness D.A.” He worked at Applecross House, and was the piper to the Middletons while there. His wife was a MacLean from Sconser, Isle of Skye. He had a daughter Ciorstaidh Thormoid; a daughter Mary (known as Màrag, who lived in Stirling);and a son Kenny (Stumpy). Norman suffered from Alzheimer’s towards the end of his life. His original gravestone was taken down when his son Kenny died, but was so badly weathered it couldn’t be repaired.
